One of our recent guests was kind enough to write an entry for our blog about their stay at Castleview House and include some useful hints and tips for making the most of your visit:
“Having arrived reasonably late in the evening we didn’t fancy cooking after the long drive, so we headed down to Polar Bites, which is a fantastic fish & chip shop providing the usual range of favourites but also some interesting additions, such as scallops, sea bass, tiger prawns and monkfish. You definitely don’t want to miss this local food treasure when you visit Kirkcudbright.
“Castleview House is perfectly located for getting to Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Gatehouse of Fleet and many others. We hardly spent much time indoors as we made sure to find plenty of excuses to stay out in the sun, such as having a barbeque (probably the only one for the year) using local meat from the butchers nearby. The convenience of having all the essentials available nearby is ideal for the anything you may have forgotten (like shampoo).
“The forests in Gatehouse of Fleet are stunning with plenty of room to explore and find hidden trails, it’s all mostly flat as well so very accessible for any and all. The secluded Dhoon beach has some fantastic views of Kirkcudbright in the distance and the River Dee, looking across to St Mary’s Isle. The rocks made for an exciting adventure but do be aware there is quicksand further along the coast and the tide can potentially cause you to be stranded.
“The weather certainly allowed us to do plenty of outdoors exploration, but if the weather isn’t so good there are plenty of things to see and do nearby.
“As a final note, I would strongly recommend getting some award-winning Beltie towers from J. Hall & Sons Butchers as they are brilliant.”
