Had a wonderful holiday with my daughters and grand daughter – nice place. Lovely house, great place to spend time with the family, some great walking places and just on the Doorstep! A lovely warm house.
The Parkers (Newark and London), January 2019
Great house for a 60th Birthday family celebration even though it rained all weekend.
The Hodgsons (Kendal and Dalkeith), November 2018
I was lucky enough to win a weekend break here with my family, wow what a wonderful place to stay! We love everything about this property, the attention to detail in the lovingly restored former Masonic Lodge oozes out of every room. The lounge with wood burning stove was so cosy for family evenings in & did I mention the book shelves?! I was in my element! We especially liked the tribute to the McConnell family in the loft bedroom & the ‘heritage neuk’ on the first floor. With beautifully decorated en suite bathrooms & comfy beds we all had a well needed rest, the message from Peter and Julie telling us we had a choice of soft, medium or firm pillows is another personal touch which was much appreciated as was the wine, milk & shortbread biscuits! The boys also loved the soft toy collection & made a zoo on the first floor with them. We visited the harbour, the castle & had to pop into Polar Bites restaurant to try the salt & pepper squid & queen scallops in garlic & cream which was delicious & did not disappoint! I can highly recommend a stay here, thank you Peter and Julie for having us, we will definitely be back! xx
The Purdys, November 2018
Castleview House has been excellent. Most of our time was spent in the living room and kitchen. On our second day, we went to see the firework display in the square. Having a park right out the back was great. We loved all the rooms, having difficulty in choosing a room proved to be rather difficult. Thanks.
The Marlands, October 2018
Had a fantastic week here. Visited Sandyhills, Rockcliff, Kippford, Doon Bay and Mossyard, collected a lot of shells from the beaches. Also managed to fit in a day at Cream O’ Galloway as well as a visit to the farmers market and Scottish Night in Kirkcudbright. Had food in the Selkirk Arms and Belfry Cafe as well as fish and chips from Polar Bites. Enjoyed dining alfresco and using the fire pit to toast marshmallows. A well deserved 5 star property. Thank you!
The Watters family, (Lenzie, Glasgow and Taipei, Taiwan), July 2018
Our time here on this visit was too short, so a return is in the planning. When we do return, we will definitely stay here. A wonderful accommodating house that meets all peoples’ holiday requirements and more. Lovely setting, lovely rooms and lovely weather. We didn’t get to everywhere we wanted this time but will endeavour to put this right next time – I believe the Golf Club also need to visit next time too. Thanks for providing a lovely house to stay in, enjoy and relax.
The Whites, Macdonalds & Gibbs, plus 2 Westies (Newark, Notts), June 2018
We arrived on Friday and resolved to work our way through the library. By the following, say Thursday, we had failed. This means that we may have to return. Perhaps after 20 or so visits, we could make some headway which would be a wonderful excuse to enjoy everything else, which was magnificent. And all in an agreeable of Scotland. Great stuff!
Fowlers (Sale Cheshire) & Dodds (Hungerford, Berkshire), June 2018
We had an amazing time staying in this wonderful holiday home. Ann and Peter have thought of everything. We have made many treasured memories here as a family.

Great house, very clean and comfortable, owners should be proud, very tastefully done up. Been to many large holiday homes, by far the best, will be back.
The Storries, Lairds & Hasties, Kirkconnel, Dumfrieshire, New Year 2018
Many thanks for a lovely home. We could not have asked for anything more. Perfect kitchen for a full Christmas dinner, relaxing, convenient for the local area. We have stayed in many places in the area and this takes the biscuit for luxury.
Emily & Laura, Hutton Lancashire, Christmas 2017
Our stay at Castleview was fantastic! Thank you for the biscuits and wine – very thoughtful.
The Spencer & Slaughter gang, Brighton, East Sussex, November 2017
A fantastic week at Castleview, helped along by the kindly-left wine and biscuits – thank you! The house is fabulous to be in and as a base for exploring, We enjoyed Monopoly and the odd lazy morning with tea and TV in bed (when the children allowed!). Very comfy beds 🙂 We loved Maibe Farm Park, Gatehouse of Fleet, walks and Carrick Bay and the Kircudbright Tattoo, which was a great surprise on our first weekend. Thank you for all the thoughtful touches. We would highly recommend 🙂
The Wood family, Hexham and Lincoln, August 2017

Wonderful house, everything you can think of is available. A great place for a family get-together. Very comfortable.
Rowlinsons & Russells, Ulverston, Carlisle & Bangor NI, October 2016
Fabulous house – so comfortable and well equipped and a great base to explore the delights of Dumfries and Galloway: Broughton House, Kirkcudbright Town Trail, Threave Gardens, Castle Douglas (and the Tour of Britain), Gatehouse of Fleet and its wonderful mill – oh and the kites and the feeding station at Bellymack Farm…who needs WiFi???!!!
Pam & Henry from Sheffield, Maggie & Richard from Edinburgh, Mick & Anne from Kilmarnock, September 2016
A superb base for our week of two halves! Firstly, a long weekend for our extended family holiday return to Kirkcudbright – three generations enjoyed visits to the local beaches (and the weather was kind to us!) at Carrick, Brighouse Bay, Doon, Cally Woods and Galloway Wildlife Park. The local park was well used by the children and well populated by visitors and locals alike. The Kirkcudbright Tattoo to end the summer festivities in the town was a huge success. Secondly, the older generation relaxed after the departure of the younger ones – Castle Douglas, Threave Gardens, Gatehouse of Fleet, Broughton House were very attractive for the new arrivals. the whole town seemed to be breathing a high sigh of relief and some contentment at the end of the period of festivities, culminating in the final hectic weekend. Castleview House is all that previous guests have described – even the WiFi worked well!
Coopers & Cockcrofts, Halifax & Brighouse, Coopers & Parmleys, Halifax & Carlisle, September 2016
Our second year at Castleview House and we’ve enjoyed again the lovely facilities. Thank you for the wine and shortbread. We had sunshine on a couple of days and so could make the most of the sundeck and garden swing. Had a lovely day at Threave Gardens and another on the coast towards Whithorn. Lovely meal at the Castle Bistro.
Betty, Dorothy, Cath, Dave, Helen & John, Sheffield & Hartlepool, August 2016
Lovely house. Lots of good spots for a quiet read. Made good use of the Katie Stewart cook book! All in all, exactly as described – 1st class. Appreciated the special little touches, including the wine, shortbread (and Kinder Eggs!).
Williams, Sharkey & Blyths, Chipping Norton & Sunderland, August 2016
Wonderful house in a prime location. We enjoyed all the little luxuries and were impressed by the good taste throughout. Lots of places of interest nearby and good food available at the Selkirk Arms Hotel, the Kirkcudbright Bay Hotel and especially at Polar Bites, where salt and pepper squid, tiger prawns in a Pernod sauce and queen scallops in white wine and garlic sauce all cost a fraction of what you would expect to pay. Also BYOB, so pleased all around, Had a great week, thank you.
Docherty & Hotchkiss families, Bannockburn and Falkirk, July 2016
This house was so perfectly laid out and had absolutely everything we needed. We are already planning our next stay. A special thanks for the fresh milk. We so needed a cup of tea when we got here! Very good wine also, the red was amazing. As holiday cottages go, very well done. Thanks so much for having us.
The Chisholms, Peebles, June 2016
Came to visit grandparents for an 80th at the Selkirk Arms Hotel (worth a visit for good pub food). We have been coming to Kirkcudbright for 20+ years to see the grand folk and have always loved it. Staying in this property, that we can remember being a wreck, has been interesting and the albums in the hall are a lovely touch. The house is beautiful, the weather was stunning. Our three-year-old loved it and was endlessly fascinated by the books. With this many books, who needs WiFi?!
Taylors, Rotherham, May 2016
What a luxurious holiday home! The gorgeous ensuite bedrooms felt like a plush hotel room and the rest of the house was so well equipped with everything you could ever need. Thank you for the lovely wine and chocolates, etc. a lovely welcome! A fantastic holiday for two families – Cream O’Galloway and the CocoaBean are both great for kids. Lots of lovely meals cooked in the fabulous kitchen, finished off with fish and chips from the Harbour on our last night – yum! Great running and dog walking from the front door, both in the woods behind and along the river. We would love a return visit in the future. Having stayed in a ‘lot’ of holiday cottages over the years, Castleview House stands out as an exceptionally well provisioned home. There was literally nothing we needed during our week’s stay! Had a great family get together for an 80th birthday and we all enjoyed ourselves. Underfloor heating works a treat. So well in fact that we didn’t get use the wood burner! Thanks for having us!
The Baxter / Rogers families, Strathblane in Glasgow & East Malling in Kent, April 2016
There are no superlatives that cover our feelings about the house. We were absolutely delighted with the accommodation and all the additional ‘bits and bobs’ that made our stay extraordinary. We used the house as a centre for a wildlife photography holiday. It was always pleasant to come back ‘home’ after a day in the hide (basic comfort). The four of us are thinking about a trip next year and guess what will be at the head of our accommodation list?
The Davidsons, Aberdeenshire, March 2016
I would like to say a huge thank you to you and your partner for allowing us to stay at your beautiful house. The lovely wine and mince pies went down a treat on arrival and you made everyone feel really welcome. I could not fault one thing about this trip and cannot wait until I book up again, hopefully for next New Year.
Chelsea Ness, Glasgow, January 2016
Thank you so much Ann & Peter for making our stay in your lovely house extra nice with the efforts made to the Christmas decorations. Very much appreciated, as was the wine and mince pie ‘welcome’ pack. We all are so much more relaxed and have enjoyed the week thoroughly. The house location has been perfect for us – just on the edge of a small town, where it was quiet and peaceful but yet we could walk to the shops in a few minutes, or the local pubs! Not too far to drive to the other places of interest/other towns either. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you.
The Stowells & Lewis family, Birch, Cheshire, December 2015

Castleview House is the best holiday home we have ever stayed in. Plenty of space for all to relax together or alone, My elderly mother and aunt were able to enjoy their own ensuite double rooms while we sampled the local establishments. An ideal house to stay after a busy year at work in London and the best night’s sleep for ages.
Lynne Goodwin & family, Hamilton & Hertfordshire, May 2015
Beautiful house in a great location. Thank you very much for all the personal touches, including the wine, which we very much enjoyed. Fantastic family days at the Cream O’Galloway and Cocoabean and excellent recommendations for places to eat. We have enjoyed browsing your library and the children had a ball at the park. Was fascinating to read through the file detailing the story of Castleview House – what an amazing transformation!

Thank you for thinking of everything that we could possibly need to a family holiday. The house is beautifully decorated and comfortable. Nice touch with the handwritten notes! Thanks.

Lovely house – all the comforts necessary for a relaxing holiday. Great to have a kitchen full of utensils, pots and pans and we enjoyed having some time to cook. Lots of space for teenagers to spread themselves out and do revision for exams. The weather was very kind to us and we got out every day to explore. Many thanks.

We have visited Kirkcudbright many times and this is the best place we have stayed at. A credit to you all. We have seen the property looking in a very sorry state for many years. You have done a great job renovating it – we will be back again in 2014. Thank you.

A few days have been passed since we stayed in your very comfortable “Castleview House” in Kirkcudbright. Now we are back in our own house in Uettligen near Berne, Switzerland. We would like to thank you for all the comfort we could enjoy in your House in Kirkcudbright. We liked the wine, which you provided to welcome us. After the drive from the airport to Kircudbright and all the rain on the way, we enjoyed a good cup of tea with the fine shortbread biscuits for us. Very thoughtful, thank you very much. The same applies for our relations who drove from Bolton, Lancs, to stay a few days with us. We certainly hope to make it again to stay for a holiday in your house. Meanwhile we wish you a very enjoyable and healthy autumn and winter time.
Peter and Hilary Friedli, Switzerland, October 2013
I have just returned from Kirkcudbright where I stayed at Castleview House under the booking for Croal.
Kirkcudbright is my family’s former home town, so we were very much looking forward to our stay. I felt I had to write to you and Ann to say how impressive the house is. You have made it truly luxurious and seem to have thought of everything to make visitors feel valued and comfortable. We were struggling to say what room was our favourite, because they all had so much character and were beautifully furnished and decorated. As for all the utensils and implements available for guests, most families take a lifetime to acquire all those bits and pieces!
We appreciate that everything is brand new which adds to the appeal, but we fervently hope that future guests manage to maintain the high standards that you have established. We certainly hope to return soon and will spread the word about the quality of the accommodation.
Thank you once again, most sincerely, for letting us share your beautiful home.
